These are videos related to the Middle Path Concepts

The numbered videos below are me going through the Middle Path content.  The non-numbered ones are relevant videos from others.

Video

1 -The Gap - Where you are and where you want to be

All human behavior starts with a gap between what one has and what one wants. All stories start here, as well as all challenges and all opportunities.

2 - The Hero's Journey Intro and the Knower Trap

Joseph's Campbell's Hero's Journey provides a very useful way to explore how we notice, understand, and resolve Gaps. I've created here a simplified version of the Hero'sJourney, along with three Traps that the Hero must successfully navigate in order resolve the Gap.

Carol Dweck - Fixed v. Growth Mindsets

This video focuses on children and parenting, but I believe it's very applicable to leaders. Watch it to learn how to help people out of the Knower Trap and staying in an open mindset.

Daniel H. Cohen: For Argument’s Sake

This is a good explanation of the Knower Trap. How and why we get stuck in it as well as good thoughts about getting out.
Why do we argue? To out-reason our opponents, prove them wrong, and, most of all, to win! ... Right? Philosopher Daniel H. Cohen shows how our most common form of argument -- a war in which one person must win and the other must lose -- misses out on the real benefits of engaging in active disagreement. (Filmed at TEDxColbyCollege.)

3 - The Victim Trap

The Victim Trap is the second trap the Hero faces. It tries to seduce her into the mindset of blame. Watch this clip to learn how to identify and escape this trap.

Staying Out of the Victim trap

Watch this video after you've learned about the Victim Trap. This is a fantastic example of someone who responds to circumstances rather than bemoaning them.

4 - The Sucker's Choice and the Completion of the Journey

The Sucker's Choice is also known as the "temptation of the hero".  The hero is offered an easy way out and must make a difficult choice.  If she succeeds then she can take her learning back to the world to share with others.

Using Our Practical Wisdom

In an intimate talk, Barry Schwartz dives into the question "How do we do the right thing?" With help from collaborator Kenneth Sharpe, he shares stories that illustrate the difference between following the rules and truly choosing wisely.

Viktor Frankl Discusses Man's Search for Meaning

Viktor Frankl discussing the search for meaning. Watch this video after you've learned about the Sucker's Choice.

Maya Angelou- Just Do Right

A short but eloquent talk by Maya Angelou on the importance of choice.

5 - Problem Solving with the Hero's Journey I - Sensing and Seeking

In this and the following video you'll learn how to apply the concepts of the Hero's Journey and the principle of the Middle Path to problem solving. Problem solving is the focus of every business conversation. Using these frameworks will help you work through problems in four stages - Sensing, Seeking, Solving, and Starting.

6 - Problem Solving with the Hero's Journey II - Solving and Starting

In this and the previous video you'll learn how to apply the concepts of the Hero's Journey and the principle of the Middle Path to problem solving. Problem solving is the focus of every business conversation. Using these frameworks will help you work through problems in four stages - Sensing, Seeking, Solving, and Starting.
